I always work hard to provide content that is student-friendly.  It is logical that I, therefore, try hard to provide dyslexia-friendly content:

  • The text is in the font Verdana.

  • All pages have the appropriate background colour

  • The content is, as far as possible, cut into small...chunks.

This is where I am with Dyslexia (thanks Janice Rolnick):

  • Dyslexia is a language-based specific learning disability.

  • The degree of difficulty with reading, spelling and writing varies from person to person.

  • It is considered a ‘learning difference’ rather than a ‘difficulty’.

  • Dyslexia is not due to the lack of either intelligence or the desire to learn.

This is where I am with students who have Dyslexia:

  • Students with dyslexia learn in a different way from others.

  • Students with dyslexia have a range of strengths, including creativity and thinking outside the box, which can lead to very original thought.

  • The experience of dyslexia is different for each person.

This is where I am teaching regarding students with Dyslexia:

  • With appropriate teaching methods, strategies and adjustments, students with dyslexia are able to learn very successfully.

  • We all have our own challenges and life is about finding a way forward and not letting ourselves be defined by our limitations, but by what we do.
